Dicken's Craft

As we read Great Expectations, I noticed that Charles Dickens often uses humor and satire in serious situations to make them funny or "lighten the mood". It's not really what he says, it's how he states the sentences and how he makes them sound that makes it funny.
When Dickens does this during the Miss Havisham chapter, he doesn't make me think of her as some creeper that watches children play, it makes me feel bad for her. He does this often with other characters and it makes them seem like they are better than they are and you start to think more of them.
