Exploring Poetry Out Loud

In poetry out loud, there is physical presence (eye contact, body language, poise), voice articulation (volume, pace), dramatic appropriateness (your reaction to the poem without making it a play), level of complexity (length, tone), evidence of understanding (knowing the meaning), and overall performance (every criteria jumbled into one big group). What I think will be easy for me is dramatic appropriateness. A challenge for me would be voice articulation and confidence. I think I will learn to be less nervous and more confident in front of a group.
In the videos that I watched, the people had good voice articulation. They both talked slow and you could clearly tell what they were saying. They both looked very confident and you couldn't really tell if they were nervous, and I really liked the poems.
The poems I read from the random section were "Gitanjali 35" by Rabindranath Tagore, and noticed the theme was kind of strength and confidence, but towards the end it got a little dark and creepy, then "strong" again. , and "An Apology For Her Poetry" by Margaret Cavendish, in which I noticed an a-b rhyme scheme, and imagery. I liked the second one better.
The two poems I chose were "The Arrow and the Song" by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. I think it means someone was lost and alone (mentally) and felt like he/she had nobody, and it's basically that persons journey to finding a friend. My second poem was "Dancer's Exercising" by Amy Clampitt. To me. this poem is trying to describe the complexity of a dancers life and how hard they work, which all leads to their success. Right now I feel pretty normal about being in a competition like this because there's always that voice in the back of your head telling you you won't make it and you won't get that far. But if I made it nationally, I wouldn't know what to do with myself.
