The story I am reading in class is The Secret Life of Bees, and I personally think that coming of age fits the definition because Lily is growing older and pretty much every day she is learning a new lesson from Rosaleen, August, June, or making her own discoveries. She is learning from all the mistakes she's made and is adapting to everything new in her life that has changed so fast and is learning to grow into the new lifestyle.
This novel affects me because we are similar in the fact that I know what it's like to live without a mother and it's difficult living without one and missing them and I think that some things that those things can help us learn "life lessons" by teaching us that we have to stay strong and not break down and move on. Some of the lessons Lily from The Secret Life of Bees learns that relate to my life are you have to learn to accept what comes to you and you have to learn that not everything in life is easy.
